Gateway MX6440 w/ ATI Audio

Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to inform anyone looking to fix an audio problem on a Gateway MX6440 Notebook after reinstalling the OS. At the time of this writing there is no support for this model on the website. The problem at hand is when you reinstall the OS with the supplied cd. There are no drivers on this disk.

This will provide the audio driver needed for the ati chipset.
I personnally had to install this driver before any others for it to work.
After download is complete, enter device manager to install the driver.
Use the option to install from a specific location.
Click Browse and navigate to where the file is located on your drive to

Chipset/chipset/Ati Southbridge/Audio

This should fix the problem for you

okay after about a hundred hours of trying to figure out out how to get the damn audio to work for the gateway mx6440. i finally figure out how it works.

okay here we go

some of you might find that you are missing the streamci or that it wont load properly. to fix this problem do the following:

to fix the missing streamci

click on my computer
right click on manage
click on device manager
click on system devices
click on Plug and PlaY software Enumerator





click on update driver
click install from a list or specific location advanced
click dont search. i will chose the driver to install




pick plug and play software device enumerator
click next
restart system


this will fix the problem which is absolutly screwing everything up




okay next go ahead and update the legacy drivers:

Updating Legacy Audio driver

First Fix the Problem with the missing steamci.dll can not load
and then update the legacy audio driver



click on my computer
right click on manage
click on device manager
under sound, video and game controllers right click legacy audio drivers




click on update driver
click install from a list or specific location advanced
click dont search. i will chose the driver to install


click on legacy audio drivers
click next
restart system

if somewhere in the process you find yourself missing files you need your original gateway installation cd

do the following to recover the missing files:

to recover a missing file from the recovery cd

when the pop up comes up put the recovery cd in

in the drop down menu click on recovery cd

click on i386

click ok

click ok again

from there it should find the missing file




now you are going to need the software ATI integraded digital audio driver. i would give this to you but i dont see away to upload it on this screen.

finally you are going to need the chipset ATI southbridge and this will solve the audio problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

once again i would supply the driver but i dont see how to upload it
