Exclamation [Premium Member] DRIVER NEEDED: Panasonic (Matsushita Matshita) PV-DV601 (Windows XP Professional) [USB]

We bought a Digital Camcorder Panasonic PV-DV601 in 2000 and over the years have done about 25 tapes. Now it is time to put them to a hard drive etc but of course the disc that came with it is for windows 98> I have three computers with Windows Xp and one with windows 8. I tried the disc and then hooked the camera up as instructed thinking that I would be able to udate the driver afterwarads. It does not work duh because everything is outdated. I called Panasonic 4 times and basically got the feeling that they just did not give a "care" So I tried to download the updated driver as I get the message Mkemusb.sys not found on all the computers. I have uninstalled everything, reisnstalled everything, paid my dues here and downloaded the "updated" driver for the 601 and when it unzips it goes to my temp file. I have put it in a diffrent folder etc, with no luck. Here is a list of what it is doing. Welcome to found new hardward wizzard. The camera is listed as a Panasonic digital camcorder It asks the two questions from disc or specific location. No disc so I go to the location where my file is unzipped and it tells me that there is no device information files. I have worked on this for three days, my key board is wore out, I have downloaded and unzipped and deleated and done the clean up so many times that my broadband is almost used up. I even had my wife look at it. Any help or suggestions would be so appreciated. It does have a firewire and one of the 5 computers does have a 1394 port so I can do it that way but that computer is on its last leg as well so I would like to get the others working.

To do video, you must use the Firewire port. The only thing needed from there is video capture software. Windows XP and Windows 8 both have video software built in so I don't know why you cannot save the video to hard drive. I don't believe a driver is needed.... only the software that comes with both OS's. I believe it's called Windows Media Player and/or Windows Movie Maker.

Default Re: [Premium Member] DRIVER NEEDED: Panasonic (Matsushita Matshita) PV-DV601 (Windows XP Professional) [USB]

thks Afte three days I figured that out. Should have done this before that time was lost. But in the manual it states that I should be able to "transfer motion images and still images from your palmcorder tape to a PC via USB cable or DV interface cable (ilink) which of course is the fire wire. The update that is on this site is for USB connection according to all of my research, yet when I unzip the file, and open the driver install program it states that there is nothing there. When I go to device manager and open up Panasonic Digital Palmcorder properties and click on the driver file details it lists 2 driver files c:\\WINDOWS\System32|drivers|MkemUsb.sys, it lists the provider but it still lists the file version as 1.0 which is what was the original, and the copyrite is Matsushita-Kotobuki Electronics and the digital signer is not signed. SO it is not updating to the new 2.0 driver that I received off of this site. Also when I orignally downloaded it there was a warning but I ignored it. I do believe that the updated driver from here is either missing the key item or I have done something wrong because the downloaded file is suppose to be a 2.0 version. the other is C:\\Windoes \INF\MkemUsb.inf and under that one it states unknown for provider file version and copyright.
I know nothing about computers etc, so all the info is appreciated.

Again, you can only transfer still photos using USB. For video transfer you must use the firewire port. I don't know what is wrong with the file you're using but it might help to state what file you have and the url to it.
