Gateway Solo 2500 (win98 SE)

Hi All - I am trying to get the touchpad on my Gateway Solo 2500 notebook to work. I have downloaded the drivers from various driver sites and cannot get it to work!!! The drivers load up o.k. and the device is present and working in device manager but the touch pad will not respond - any ideas would be highly appreciated... Thanks!
