Exclamation DRIVER NEEDED: Hewlett Packard (HP) 5183 (P/N: 5187-1767) (Windows XP Professional)

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2002. I am having a ton of trouble getting this HP Keyboard to work with the laptop. The keyboard was given to me by a friend, so I don't have any of the original software/drivers for it. Due to lack of PS/2 port, I am using a "Tripp-Lite USB to PS/2 Converter" Model number B015-000. When I plug the TL into the USB port, I get the "ding" when the laptop gets a new USB connection, however, when I plug the keyboard into the PS/2 end, nothing happens. When I restart the Inspiron, the keyboard's LED's come on for a few moments, then turns off. Any assistance with this would be MUCH appreciated!

It sounds like the T/L adapter is faulty. Do you have another one to try. You don't need any drivers for the standard keys to operate, only for the special internet keys to work. Do this keyboard have the extra special keys?

Read the info presented in this thread for additional help or just type "HP 5183" into your search program.

It looks like this keyboard was designed for Windows 98.....

The T/L adapter is in perfectly working condition. I have tested it with other devices, as well as other keyboards. If you would have paid any attention in the aforementioned original post, I stated that my keyboard's P/N is 5187-1767 and the Model # is 5183. So, to answer your question, it is an HP Keyboard, Model # 5183, P/N: 5187-1767, issue: I need the drivers, I do use a Tripp-Lite adapter.

As for the windows 98, yes. I do believe W98 was the device's OS that the keyboard was delivered with, however, that is beside the point. My laptop is a Windows XP Media Center Edition 2k2.
