DRIVER NEEDED: Acer Extensa 5420 (Windows Vista) [SCSI]

I have an Acer Extensa 5420 with WD1600BEVS SATA HD and after a reformat, my Windows Vista (32) install disks can not find a device driver to access hard driver (drive controller driver, then I assume). It asks for the installation media and after search across this site, and WD and Acer, i can not find a drive controller driver for Vista. help!

SATA hard disk controller drivers are normally included with the Vista OS... Acer does not have any SATA drivers listed for this laptop:

They have a "FIR" driver posted but I have no clue what a "FIR" device is.

Open Device Manager, find and double-click the SATA device, click the Details tab, select "hardware id" and give me the hardware id string that begins with "PCI\VEN", (1st./top line of text only). If no driver has been installed for this device it may be listed under "Unknown Devices" or "Other Devices".

Example for my Intel/Dell Dimension 9100 board hardware id for this device is: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27DF&SUBSYS_01A71028&REV_01

Thanks Jerry,
Unfortunately the laptop doesnt boot, so I cant get to device manager.
When I use the Vista install disks (I do have install disks and repair disks, both) it gets to the screen to ask you what device you want to load Windows onto and nothing is listed. Yet, when i hit the Load Driver option, I get a small file manager/browse window that does indeed list the hard drive (and a USB stick and DVD Rom). So it seems like it is seeing there is a HD there...
I have tried copying and loading any kind of disk controller driver (or anything that looks like one) and nothing allows my HD to be seen in the list of drives to install Windows to.
