Exclamation [Premium Member] DRIVER NEEDED: Samsung SC-148A (Windows XP Professional) [IDE]

This device is listed in Device Manager but Windows cannot find and load the drivers for it. Does anyone know which files Windows XP doesn't have which would cause this? The machine is an old Dell Dimension 2300 and there are no drivers or firmware updates listed on the Dell support site. The system must be missing something in the Windows directory and I am not sure what is missing. As always, any and all help will be greatly appreciated! TY in advance!!

Support Information:
Device Type: CD / DVD
Manufacturer: Samsung
Model: SC-148A

Age of Device: Not specified

All driver files needed to make the drive detectable/installable are included with the Windows XP OS. No additional files are needed.

Is the drive listed in "My Computer"? Is the listing in Device Manager (for the drive) flagged as having a problem?

Hey Jerry - The drive is flagged in device manager with the exclamation mark. I've uninstalled the device but, unfortunately, WinXP doesn't find the needed file(s) and the install aborts, the drive does not show up in Windows Explorer. and it continues to be flagged in the device manager. Should I run SFC and see if Windows can self-correct? There has to be something missing from the Windows Directory but I'm not sure what it is. What's your take?

You didn't tell me if the drive is listed in "My Computer". I will assume it's not... so do this easy procedure. It's a registry edit that will fix the problem.

Fix #1: - (recommended fix)
Here's a method (CdGone.zip) that will do this procedure automatically correct the registry problem.
Code:
http://forums.driverguide.com/showthread.php?t=22131 (automatic fix, post #7, download file: CdGone.zip) Unzip the file, then launch it. It's quick and requires no skill to use.
This fix has been posted in hundreds of my posts in this forum... but nobody reads any more.

Now after a reboot, the drive should be listed in My Computer and working just fine.

I must say that your arrogance is probably what turns most people off. I asked a simple question and do not appreciate your crap attitude. Not all of us have the time to search through pages of forum posts as you do. I stated very clearly that the drive does not show up in Windows Explorer, which as I remember is what "My Computer" is. Perhaps you're not sure what SFC is? or do you just delight in trying to put people down for asking questions on this forum? Your superior intellect keeps you from having any kind of real interactions with people so you lurk on this forum making people feel less than you are. I really wish I hadn't renewed my membership now. Very sorry to have bothered.

It's not my job to do your reading for you. That should be done by you prior to posting. I have much more important things to do than spoon-feeding the babies that show up here full of $hit and arrogance that makes them feel important to do as they please and make demands of others. You don't have that right here I'm sorry to say (membership or not). I'll go out of my way to help you but I won't spoon-feed you one iota. And if you don't like my attitude, nobody is forcing you to come or stay here.... if you have time to post, then you have time to read.

And no, Windows Explorer IS NOT "MY COMPUTER". MY COMPUTER is visible when you click the START button Mr. Windows Non-Expert. You didn't even have the common sense to use the solution I posted so as far as I'm concerned, you and I are finished. You can get a refund on your membership... all you have to do is place a request using the feedback button.

You're absolutely right mister! I don't need to be here and yes, a refund would certainly seem to be in order. Here's the Microsoft instructions which, since I can't read, somehow fell out of the sky! Look familiar Mr. hole? See you down the road...

Windows XP
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
In the right pane, click UpperFilters.

Note You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to step 7.
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
In the right pane, click LowerFilters.

Note If you do not see the LowerFilters registry entry, unfortunately this content cannot help you any further. Go to the "Next Steps" section for information about how you can find more solutions or more help on the Microsoft Web site.
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
Exit Registry Editor.
Restart the computer.
