Re: DRIVER NEEDED: Intel 82801FB (ICH6) AC'97 Audio Controller driver (Windows 7) [IDE]
There is no such sound chip as Intel 82801.... and AC97 is not a sound chip number nor model, it's only a term adopted by Microsoft in 1997 defining sound standards. But you would know this if you had bothered to read the dozens of threads posted in this forum that are identical to yours. Sound chips are made by companies like Realtek, Cmedia, ADI SoundMAX, VIA, and IDT (formerly Sigmatel).
HP/Compaq never shipped this computer with Windows 7 installed, hence it's a non-supported OS.

Your Compaq DC5100 MicoTower desktop contains a sound chip made by ADI SoundMAX and will bear a number similar to this: ADIxxxx. It helps to find a driver when you know what the sound chip is.... when you don't, your chances are next to zero.
Did Everest fail to give you a working link to this driver? Or did you fail to find it posted in our driver database or did the 3 links automatically added to the bottom of your thread fail to produce results?
