An Advent 5421 is not a Motherboard (even though it contains one), it's a notebook computer model!

What problem are you having that you think a bios update will fix?

Advent is the in-store brand of PC World (and there is zero support from PC World). The 5421 is basically a rebadged Uniwill U50SI1 (you should see this printed on the underside of the laptop). I'm fairly certain this is the same as the Gericom Phantom A4 Superlight 53120, the Gericom website contains drivers and a user manual however, no bios files are posted there. I suspect that finding a bios update for this notebook model will have to come from a custom bios house.

Advent Repairs and Spares:

All official service and support is handled by The Tech Guys (http://www.thetechguys.com/), if your laptop is covered under warranty then you need to contact them for repairs.

If your laptop is out of warranty then there are a number of other companies who do either repairs or supply spare parts, here are a selection -

TechnoMart - http://www.techno-mart.co.uk
DriveMyLaptop (replacement drives) - http://www.drivemylaptop.co.uk
Laptop Solutions UK - http://www.laptopsolutionsuk.co.uk

I want tyo upgrade the ram. I purchased it from the crucial website but when i add it all it does is contantly reboot, so much i cant even get into the bios. Im trying to add:
2GB, 200-pin SODIMM, DDR2 PC2-5300 memory module
CT919499
Module Size: 2GB
Package: 200-pin SODIMM
Feature: DDR2 PC2-5300
Specs: DDR2 PC2-5300 • CL=5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-667 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64
The system is running currently on vista home but only has 512mb ram and is virtually useless.
(A friend brought it second hand)

Are you adding the new 2 GB. ram module to the computer alongside the existing 512 chip or are you removing the existing 512 module and installing the 2 GB module back in it's place. I suspect you will need to install 2- 1 GB modules if your notebook won't accept the single 2 GB module.

I haven't looked up the specs. on this notebook so I'm unsure if it will accept a single 2 GB module. I'm also not aware of any bios update, that's why I said you'll probably have to use a custom bios house (if it's even possible to get one that will make it accept the 2 gb ram module). Did you read somewhere that a bios update would fix this problem?

Perhaps the new 2 gb. module is bad or not the correct type for your notebook. If it is in fact a good device, then it should work if the manufacturer and the ram maker says it will. Something is amiss here and I don't think a bios update will help (unless it specifically states "to allow larger capacity ram modules.) I've not ever heard of a bios doing this so it's a rare occasion.
