Laptops (specifically a Compaq Presario C508US Notebook PC) cannot use generic drivers. They must use specific drivers from the laptop maker (or special "hacked for laptops" drivers). HP never shipped this laptop with Windows XP installed .... that accounts for why there are very few drivers posted on their website for this model and Windows XP OS. Drivers are abundant for Windows Vista for this laptop but HP just doesn't want to provide backwards support for this model...

For the C508US the XP drivers for C300 CTO work well. So just visit hp.com and do a search for this model.
