Conexant does not build modems, they make modem chipsets and sell them to modem manufacturers.
Retail modems are usually supported by their manufacturer. OEM modems are usually supported by the computer manufacturer/vendor.
Which type do you have? soft k56 is not a model number, it's only a generic term meaning the modem is a cheap "winmodem" (no on-board processor) and that it's speed is 56KB/S. That term could apply to literally several dozen modems.
