WinXP - can't reboot system

Help me please!!!! I am not exactly sure what happened, but I packed up the machine to move it then it never wanted to boot into XP again. It seems that my hdd is empty!! The only thing I can think of was some sort of virus or my daughter deleted something. I can't even get the cd-rom to work so that I can re-install. Any help would be appreciated; Otherwise, I give and I will go back to Win98. (But I really liked WinXP:~ )
