And no ethernet description gets you no help. HP doesn't even list an ethernet adapter on their downloads page:

They show about 6 different Wireless lan drivers but nothing for Wired lan.
Late find: if your notebook contains a Realtek RTL8101 Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC , you might be able to make this driver for the HP Pavilion dv6700 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC work:

Give it a try. If it doesn't work, then you will need to describe your ethernet chipset.
