DRIVER NEEDED: Conexant Gateway MX6030 (Windows XP Professional)
Need help with the sound driver for a Gateway MX6030. Had BSOD a few days ago, re-formatted and installed XP Pro SP3, installed all drivers from the Gateway website, everything works but the sound.
With the driver from Gateway, only had multimedia sound device with an error in device manager, no sound. After much searching/reading, installed the AC'97 driver from Realtek, which installed but gives me an Error 10.
Other fix found online included New Hardware Wizard, installing a sound device, selecting Intel and AC'97 Audio Controller, but I do not have Intel as a selectable brand.
Contacted Gateway and asked about the driver not working from their site and was told that because my laptop was over a year old, it was out of warranty and they could not help me.
Currently if I uninstall the sound driver and go to new hardware wizard, it only gives me the option of installing Realtek, which installs, then returns to an error 10.
