Intel 82801DB is not a audio chip. it's only a main chipset on the board. There are very few sound chip makers in the world, amongst them are Realtek, Cmedia, ADI SoundMax, and Sigmatel. Chances are high that your audio chip is one of those. So we have to figure out which one.

Please provide the following information:

1: is this a desktop or laptop pc?

2: Brand and model of pc (if OEM)

3: Brand and model of motherboard (if retail)

I downloaded the ASUSTek driver AD1888_2KXP_5410. Got an error message "driver not found. please reboot and try again" (something like that). This is making me crazy If anyone can help I would sure appreciate it. I am starting to wonder if I have a virus or something but I ran AVG Anti-Virus and found absolutely nothing...

I checked the BIOS just to make sure sound was on. I also ran services.msc and made sure Windows Audio said "started". Control Panel for Sound and Audio Devices: Volume - No Audio Devices; Sounds - Sound Scheme says "Windows Default"; Audio - Sound Playback and Sound Recorder say Modem #0 Line Playback and Modem #0 Line Record. Same for Voice.
In Hardware all the devices listed say they are working properly.

Anyone have a clue what I should try next? This is truly making me crazy!
Thank you,
Maria

romepalaces, thank you for the info. Unfortunately I live on a very fixed income and can't afford a membership right now. I'm going to bookmark that Toolkit anyway and if I haven't figured this out by then I can buy at least 2-day access next month. Looks like just what I need!
