I have a Hewlett-Packard Presario M2000 notebook. Two days ago I reinstall the OS with Windows XP Professional SP2 and found that some functions of the notebook didn't work, including the sound. After searching through the net, I made a guess that it had something to do with the sound card, multimedia audio controller thingy.
Here's the screenshot of what I saw at the device manager:
I tried to install the audio driver from a CD that is included in the package when I got the notebook. It let me install the driver, but it ended up with a 'failure' message after the installation finished. I thought there's something wrong with the cd or something, so I decided to find the driver from the net. Going here, there, everywhere, I finally found the right page regarding the information about what exact drivers I need for the notebook: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=433 559&lang=en
The page said that I need to install both Conexant CX20468-31 AC97 Audio Driver EQ and Conexant CX20468-31 AC97 Audio driver. I downloaded and install them, and guess what ... I got the same error message with the previous attempt when I installed the driver from the cd:
Any idea why this could happen and how to fix this problem? Thanks.
