Exclamation DRIVER NEEDED: Matsushita (Matshita Panasonic) uj-831d (Windows XP Home)

Been flicking through other requests and apparently xp doesnt require drivers...however, my troubleshoot sucks, so im hoping someone could help me figure this out...

My Matshita dvd/cd drive seems to have just stopped working. Its pretty new - installed by the-tech-guys or something only a couple of months ago.

What happens is I put a dvd or cd in, it makes loady noises for about 10 minutes...and thats it. No autorun or 'what to do' box comes up, and when I go to the drive/device it claims theres nothing in there...however, it also claims that the device is working (...which it obviously isnt). I clicked 'open' and 'explore' and it came up with an 'i/o device error'...Any ideas before i ship it back off to the techies? Please?

(also sorry....no idea what it means by interface type...and now i sound dumb >_<)

Your drive has gone bad. These UJ-xxx drives are notorious for being bad and I've personally witnessed a new drive go bad within 2 hrs. Replace the drive and your problems will go away (for awhile anyway, especially if you replace it with the same brand). You won't believe the number of Matsushit/Matshita UJ-XXX requests in this forum. Just browse or search and you'll see what I'm talking about. There is no software that will repair a bad drive.
