I found this page, with details about your Sony DVD-ROM / CD-RW combo drive:

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-External-...704204-1459215

Tell us what problems you're having; also tell us which computer you're attaching this external burner to... You mentioned "HP prof." for recording software, which doesn't give us any helpful information.

We need more information to help you; DESCRIBE the problems you're having IN DETAIL, and maybe we can point you in the right direction to resolve this...

The interface is not Firewire... Sony calls it "iLink", it's considered a propiatary interface.

Has it ever worked? new or used? Was working then quit? If it did ever work, what driver was being used?

Sorry, but I know nothing about Sony's iLink technology... I'm not sure they even know what it is.

I'd suggest if you have a problem with this drive not working, provide some details of the problem and some details from Device Manager.

In the meantime, consider performing a recovery process... that should get your drive working.

Just to clarify the difference between true FireWire, and Sony iLink hardware...

In a nutshell, Sony's "iLink" was a stripped-down version of Apple's FireWire. The MAJOR difference is, iLink devices use the host CPU for processing power, while actual FireWire devices have their own built-in processor. Logically, the iLink devices are parasitic to the host CPU, while FireWire devices are not...
