Exclamation DRIVER NEEDED: gateway solo 9300 (Windows XP Professional)

Guys,
I have searchederd everywhere but can not find a driver to support the built in modem on the gateway solo 9300 laptop. It seems only to support up to win2k ,98,etc but not windows xp. Googling around i see a few others have had the same issue but can't find an answer, (other than pcmia) can anyone suggest which driver would do it.
The modem is showing up as a simple PC communications device and i think its a 3com.
desperate! The whole xp install went great and everything works perfect except this.

Cheers
Dave

Gateway never wrote any modem driver other than for Windows 9x and Windows NT4. Try using the NT4 driver as Windows XP is a NT based version.

Hi,
well i tried that, but am still still stuggling,
I uninstalled all my modems and rebooted, installed theNt modem and rebooted,
In device manager it shows 2 modems now,
%modem%
which i have disabled
and directly below it it shows the new 3com mini pc modem fax modem.
I right click on that and it shows it as working properly.

Now when i try connect to the internet via this i am getting the
"the modem is already in use or is not configured correctly.

Could it be that there is some sort of conflict between coms? I have tried on 3 different com ports.

when i look at the bottom of my devices list there is a single com listed and it says this is working fine.

Do i have to create a new COM port, i have never done that before, installation files with the 3com model say i should make sure its on com port 2. i ahve tried that but still the same message.
any other ideas appreciated.
Cheers
Dave.

It's difficult to say as some modem installs create the port automatically during install of the driver... others must have the com port already installed.

What you might try is delete all com ports in Device Manager first. Then try installing the modem and driver. If it still gives you that error message, then remove the modem, uninstall the driver, then reinstall.

You must insure there are free resources for the modem first. ie: irq and i/o address. If your pc doesn't have any serial ports, no problem. If it does have physical serial ports 1 & 2, try disabling com2 in bios setup BEFORE installing the modem in the pc. That will allow the pci modem to use com2. Install is usually a snap using this procedure.
