Medion wid 2000 notebook

Having problems with a medion notebook with a dvd +rw drive that i bought two weeks ago, and was wondering if there was anyone here who could help me out a bit. The notebooks name is "Medion wid 2000" and I am running win xp pro sp1 on it.

The problem I have is that the notebook freezes up while playing some games or watching movies, and once it gave me a blue screen saying that windows was shutting down the computer to protect it from an error that could cause hardware damage. It listed the atapi.sys as being the problem. Now i was wondering if the dvd +rw drive might need a special driver for it but i dunno what make the dvd drive is. Have tried searching on it but the only name that it can give me is dvd +rw 8160, no company make. After checking the net i was thinking it would be a Ricoh drive, but their webpage doesn't list any drive by the name 8160...

So anyone know what might be wrong, or atleast how i can figure out what make the dvd +rw drive is without taking the notebook apart? And yes i have checked medions crappy homepage (the price one pays for cheap products i guess).
