Optical drives do not require any driver other than the one provided natively by the Windows XP os. If your drive is not listed in My Computer and Device Manager then you need to perform the "delete upper and lower filters fix". There is a STICKY at the top of the forum that has a file from Microsoft to do this fix for you. It also contains instructions. Give it a try.

It is listed in the Device Manager no doubt about that but it says in the Device Manager that there is some kind of error that it is in. I think that is error code 19 if I am not mistaken. I have tried reinstalling the said hardware, it detects the hardware however, the problem is still the same. I have been looking all over the internet of the drivers for Optiarc DVD RW 7530 ATA device driver but unfortunately I am unsucessful in the said attempts.

Could somebody please help me? I starting to become frustrated with this. Should I go back to America to get circuit city with its warranty? Because I am here in Manila, Philippines and I could not find a way to go back to America.

That would be all. Thanks and have a nice day.

Yours truly,
JaZ

HERE IS THE FIX, I have new Compaq Presario laptop using Vista with this Optiarc DVD drive saying "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"
I just tried this Jerry's recommendation, I couldn't get the Patchfix to download and work BUT... I did, with the help of COMPAQ tech support (my computer is still under waranty), figure out how to do Jerry's Idea manually and IT WORKED!
TO DO THIS: type "REGEDIT" in start search box to open the Registry Editor. In the directory tree click-expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SYSTEM,CurrentControlSet,Control,Class,{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}, 0000. then in the right pane look for files with Upper or Lower Filters and then right click to delete them.

But how do i know which files are the Upper or Lower Filters?
Please tell me, because I have the same problem.

I tried to do everything you said manually but... well here's the thing, the upper and lower dilter that you say I should delete... they aren't in the specified area of regedt...

Any other way to fix the problem

BTW, I'm using Optiarc DVD RW AD-7530A ATA Device and get the message "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)". I'm using Vista. Mine is also built in instead of USB.

All I'm looking for is a foolproof method to get my DVD drive working so I can play games again. Either that or a download that does it all for me.
