Exclamation DRIVER NEEDED: TSST CD/DVDW TS-H652M ATA device (Windows Vista) [IDE]

Wasn't driver problem but Filter problem in registry. You need to run/regedit/HKey_local_machine/system/crontrolset001 &002&currentset/control/class/4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFCI-08002BE10318 once you locate this in your Device manager you can see on the right side if there is an Upper Filter or Lower filter. Delete it, and this should make your Device run again. I thought I needed a driver because Vista couldn't find my CD/DVDW but there wasn't any problem with my driver. Hope this helps in some way if anyone has also lost their CD drive as I was at the end of my wits with this.

Thumbs up Re: DRIVER NEEDED: TSST CD/DVDW TS-H652M ATA device (Windows Vista) [IDE]

This was very effective!
I had the exact error as described by the OP, DVD-RW appeared correctly in BIOS, however Vista did not show it in "My Computer" and it had the lovely Exclamation mark in the Device Mgr. Being a System device it had no special drivers to load... so don't waste your time dl'ing new ones.

I did the fix as mentioned to the two lines of registry (after making a b/u), simply deleting the contents of those two REG_MULTI_SZ entries and then a reboot...
Voila! The device shows up in My Comp and loaded a CD.
One caveat, my drive is a TS-H652H <-- not an M as in OP. hopefully that helps even more
I just wanted to make this post to asure searchers out there that this solution is viable given same pre-conditions.

Thanks Coloradosprings!
Blessings,
M
