I'm also needing the same driver (UJ850). I've installed the Windows Vista Ultimate OEM Dell Version. During the instalation, the DVD drive worked normally, but after the finish of setup, the Windows Vista doen't recognize the DVD Unit. There's an unknown device on Device Manager, but i don't know if it refeers to DVD Drive. Therefore, it works fine on Windows XP. Only on Vista version the problem happens, and it's driving me crazy. Please, I need some help.

Yeah, I'm in need of the Matshita dvd-ram UJ852S ATA Device (according to device mgr, that's the drive) driver too. I was installing the latest version of nero and this happened. I think something went wrong when I uninstalled the crap burning software that the system came with. After taking off the roxio stuff, that's when my dvd-rw had an issue with the driver.

Ive done exactly the same thing as jleetoi.

I removed the Roxio software which came with the Sony Laptop and installed Nero 7.10 and after that the Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-852S reports :

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

There are 2 drivers its trying to load:
cdrom.sys 6.0.6000.16386 & PxHelp20.sys 3.00.43J by Sonic Solutions

Ive removed Nero in the hope it would work, but that hasnt worked and I dont have the install files for the Roxio software without doing a reinstall from the recovery partition.

Well, after a little deliberation, I decided to go back in time and use one of those restore points Vista quite nicely makes for you every time you install something.

I went back to the point just before I removed Roxio Creator and the drive is perfectly happy.

There are 2 additional drivers loading :-

Cdr4_xp.sys - Sonic Solutions 8.0.0.212
Cdralw2k.sys - Sonic Solutions 8.0.0.212

Who knows what I did exactly that broke it, but Im pleased the restore point was there and worked.

Im going to put Nero back on and cross my fingers.

Well I had same problem and Vista restore was the only one option that works . Last thing I did before Matsushita wasnt working was Hibernation so who knowns what happend after resuming Windows?
Just hope It's not gonna happen again.
