Default Samsung SC-148C

Hi
I have bought a second hand DELL Optiplex GX60. I re-insalled the orginal Dell boot up CD via Samsung SC-148C. Installed all the drivers as well. The CD Rom read the OS CD and Antivirus CD. Even Office Xp as well. The operating system is windows XP home edition, Orginal from Dell. Now the CD ROM is not reading any Cd's including the OS CD. Only Norton Antivirus can be read. Please help. I unable to play any CD at all.

Look in Device Manager, CD Rom section. Tell us what is listed under that section. Then look under ide controllers and tell us what is listed there. Take note if any devices are flagged as having a problem.

The flagged devices have nothing to do with IDE or CD ROM. If both are listed in Device Manager and are not flagged then it should work. If it doesn't then I'd take a guess and say the drive is defective. Only way to know is to put it into a bench test environment or try it in another machine.
