The drive must be properly detected by the system. Is it? ie: visible in My Computer and Device Manager? If not then you won't be able to burn or read. And optical drives never require a driver when used in Windows XP.
You didn't give any details... ie: what are you using to burn with?
Note: Windows XP provides native support that allows this drive to read a data or music disk and to burn a cd-r disk. If you have Easy Cd Creator (what version?) and it's version 5.x or higher, you should not have any burning problems.
