Default Gem/Scanport Notebook---Help!

I have a four year old Gem/Scanport Notebook (they don't make them any more). I had to reformat the hard drive and reload windows 98 se. I ended up with drivers for the monitor/screen which only display 16 colors.

I need someone to direct me to general..generic...driver that will support 256 colors.

Help....
