You didn't say but it sounds like you've already formatted. When/if you do, your cd drive will no longer work without DOS drivers to enable it. Those drivers can be found on any Windows Emergency Boot Disk. If you don't have one, go to [url]www.bootdisk.com[/url] and download one.
If you still have Windows running and your drive isn't detected, then you need to perform the "delete upper and lower filters fix". You can find instructions for doing that in many of the threads below yours.
Look in Device Manager and tell us what it says about your cd drives and ide controllers.
