i do not have the restore disk for this laptop

Atheros doesn't make NICs, they make chipsets. Most likely your card is built by Airlink model 101. If so, you may be able to get this driver to work:

Also, the Netgear wg311 v1 uses the Atheros Ar5215 chipsets.
