DRIVER NEEDED: Samsung SC-DC164 (Windows XP Home) [USB]

I recently became a videographer for a firm, and they lost the CD that came with this camcorder. Can anyone help find the device driver?

I'm not convinced it requires any driver since Samsung has none posted. Perhaps it does and they just want to charge for drivers so they choose not to post them for free downloading. All I found was Firmware, Manuals, and spec sheets.

I own this Camera, it doesn't come with a "driver", with WindowsXP (currently patched) if you plug it in you should see it show up as an item under "my computer" which you can do simple image caps with. The only CD's it does come wih where to app cd's one for images the other Ulead VideoStudio 9 SE DVD.

Neither CDs include "drivers" but rely on Microsoft's DirectX and built in USB drivers...

Also when I did install the included software it screwed the other drivers and my directX install for other items I have, including simple USB headphones. So if you do get the software CD's I'd be weary of installing them. Of course it's not exactly Samsung's fault that Microsoft can't write an OS that doesn't choke on it's own drivers all the freaking time.

Of course if I were you, I'd tell your Firm to buy a better camera, the SC-DC164 isn't crap... but There's a few others out there in the same price range that are -much- better for connecting to PC/mac to take video in directly. I know I'll be selling off this thing to do just that.

Oh yeah... and don't bother going to Samsung's website... it's garbage. They don't tell you much of anything. and the only thing you can download are some PDFs and a firmware upgrade. (which you can't install because they don't tell you where to download the software needed to actually use the firmware upgrade...at least not that I saw)

Actually, after having my USB drivers explode...partly due to installing Samsung's software. I've discovered that in the setup of this third party software is... *fan fare* Samsung DigitalCam Drivers....

So there are samsung drivers but they roll them into the Ulead install...

...

Sometimes I wonder if device manufactures actually -use- any devices...at all... what genius made this choice... *sigh*
