Microsoft apparently forgot to include sound support for your laptop. Either use the recovery disks that should have been included with your laptop to restore the sound, eg: install the sound driver or visit Sony's many worldwide websites to see if a sound driver is available.

Yeah this one was tough... I ran into this problem recently when re-doing a Sony VAIO PCV-V300G without the restore disks. No audio driver available from the web site and Sony Tech Support is completely worthless. Hardware ID programs identify the onboard chip as a SIS 7012, but the chipset drivers from their website (SIS) don't work for this PC. Taking these apart to get at the integrated chip is worse than disasembling a laptop, but doing so shows the actual AC 97 codec... AD1981B(L). If you search driverguide for this reference "AD1981B" you will find one download - it works.

Good Luck,

Justin

Hope this helps!

It comes as a .rar file, you will need a rar extractor or winzip. You driver is extracted into AD1981B@SIS7012 folder, then in your device manager select that folder and the "other" sub folder.

Search in driver guide in case this link fails
Manufacturer = Analog Devices, Windows XP, Model AD1981B

All:

I need help... I took my granddaughters computer to a local computer "expert"; he wiped out her sound... She's distraught; I'm trying to help... He said he couldn't find anything on the Sony website, so I'd just have to purchase another program. Anyway, before spending any more money, I thought I'd look on the web. I found your site, followed the directions and now have the AD1981B SIS 7012 file in a folder; what now?

By the way, her computer is a Sony Valo PCV-V300G.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

MB

Do as member stuckSonyVaiov300G states to do, ie: then in your device manager select that folder and the "other" sub folder.

This might help:
After the file is unzipped to the AD1981B@SIS7012, folder then click on the Add New Hardware icon in Control Panel, select the
type of hardware, then click on Have Disk. Point the installation to the AD1981B@SIS7012 folder where these files have been extracted.

Then direct the installation to the \other sub-folder. Once done, there will be one or more hardware devices showing on the screen.
There's several INF files that will show the choices for sound hardware. Choose the one that is closest to your sound system. The
remainder is fairly automatic... just follow the on-screen instructions until finished.

If you need any additional files for this machine, Click here to go to the download page.
