Thanks, you post helped me too. I have the same: hl-dt-st rw/dvd gcc-4241n, and at first I followed your instructions and it helped, but then after I put in a second disk to read it went back to doing the same. It sounds as if the cd is in and recognizes it is in yet, it does not read anything.

Please help.

I have a code 10 in Vista. I try to delete the two key in regedit and my cd-rom drive works again. Thanks for the tip Jerry.

I was trying with other methods to reactivate the drive (DVD+/-RW) for my pavilion dv1325la, and I felt frustated, but then, I just picked this page and... WOW, it really worked, I thought it was hardware problem, but it was software problem, THANKS A LOT JERRY K.
