DRIVER NEEDED: ATI IXP SB400 AC'97 Audio Controller (Windows XP Home)

Please Help, i've been trying for over a week to get my sound back on my pc, been looking all over the net till I found this site.
Hope you can end my misery

To find make and model of pc hardware, EVEREST Home Edition is a free system diagnostics, system information program that will id most hardware onboard a mb.

Run the program and then:

Click on Computer
Click on Summary
Right hand window (hardware) if the text is blue this is a link to the web site for that particular hardware.

An alternative program is Belarc Advisor from www.belarc.com (a little more simple to use than Everest but not as good about identifying a place to find the driver).

sp31635.exe will work for the ati sb400 audio device

File is available at hp.com

Requires forceful install!

Chose to select device from list >select modem then click have disk and navigate to the folder where you extracted the drivers

sp32338.exe will work the same way for the modem

Hi all, i got the same problem as PieChip. I have a laptop (NEC Lavie G),
and got problem of getting suitable drivers for the audio media controller and modem.

I've checked through driverGuide Toolkit and it returns :
audio : IXP SB400 AC'97 Audio Controller
modem: IXP SB400 AC'97 Modem Controller

For your information, i've downloaded the recommended drivers by drpcdr.ca and i did force install and it seems work! but when i go to modem properties and query the modem, i got error message.

Same as audio media controller, i've downloaded many drivers from different manufacturers and there is still no sound on my laptop.

can someone help me..

Laptops (unlike Desktops) require SPECIFIC drivers from the laptop maker. You will not get any of those dozens of drivers you download to work UNLESS they were wriiten specifically by the laptop maker for that SPECIFIC laptop (or a similiar model with exact same hardware).

If you don't understand why, please do some reading on how laptops are designed by the manufacturer.
They do it for a reason.... $$$$$$

awesome.. I was hitting dead end since last 2 days. Doing a forceful install fixed it. So far I was just letting the drivers setup file do it.. but now after forcefully installing it, it works. THANKS A LOT. BTW I had a gateway MX6445
