Installing drivers

Could someone please tell me the correct way to uninstall and then install a different driver, the reason I am asking is that I am having problems trying to install a correct driver for my video card in my laptop.

It keeps installing the standard vga card which is only giving me 16 colours, I did get the Super VGA driver to work once, then when I rebooted it went back to the standard, I do not appear to be able to get rid of the standard, it keeps automatically re-installing itself.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am really losing my patience.
