I have an old Panasonic 2X PCMCIA CDROM drive and I cannot get my PC to read it. I am running Win98 2nd Edition. My device manager tells me there is a problem with the IDE/ESID driver.

have you tried windows help ? there is a troubleshooter as well as info on enabling pcmcia support . a trip to jargons driver musem might be helpful . go to http://drivermuseum.com/files/drivers/cdrom_d.html
they have drivers for your panasonic . hope this helps,
