: I bought a LexMark Printer Scanner Copier Combo...Model is X2250 ( ironically...not the model they advertised as being on sale when I bought it last September ) and the printer works fine, the copier works fine...but the wizard on the installation cd...sort of gave up when I indicated I use Windows XP...and it referred me to the manufacturer or the Vendor. The pc I bought had Windows XP pre-installed...so I have no installation disc for Windows. The Windows website gives me no help for this situation.....so I have been SOL since last fall. Any help appreciated.
: (not sure about my interface type...Novice user here )
: Thank you.

First, make sure your usb port is enabled and working properly. Check in Device Manager to see the information about the usb port. If it's not listed, then you probably haven't enabled it in bios setup. If the usb port is not listed, you may need XP installation files to get it installed. If at an point you're prompted for the XP installation disk, either insert your installation/recovery disks and allow the installation to search those disks for CAB files. If you don't have any, then use the search feature on your start menu and do a search on the hard drive for *.CAB. If files are found, note their location then redirect the installation to that location instead of the cd-rom disk drive where installation files are normally found.
