Toshiba 420 cdt laptop

Does anyone know what to do when laptop starts to boot but barely gets into cmos message and then stalls with a message saying "KBC error". Boot disks will not work. Removing batteries all 3 and recharging does nothing also. Can you pull the cmos chip in this model?
Really stuck.
