: I am in need of some help. I reformatted this notebook and used the start up disk and now i'm stuck. when i reboot, it only stays at Microsoft Windows 98, Copyright Microsoft Corp . You should have used the startup disk first then a format. Formatting erases all data on a harddisk so without an os installed, you won't get a pc to boot unless you use a startup disk or install an os. Where, exactly are you at? Do you have an os installed? Using a start up disk will only boot the machine and give you a prompt with the drive letter from which you booted... eg: in most cases, A:. I'm trying to figure out how you're getting a C: prompt. Please explain what you have done so far (and what kind of disk, eg; floppy, cd-rom, other, you're using to boot the machine with) and perhaps we can offer something further that will help.
