DRIVER NEEDED: Hitachi DK23AA (Windows XP Professional)

Hi all, I recently purchased a USB to IDE cable and was given a Hitachi DK23AA-12B HDD from a friend. I've been having so much trouble with this thing and have gotten to the stage where it is saying that it has no driver for this device. I'm running XP Pro SP2, and all help would be appreciated. Please explain why you purchased a USB to IDE cable when it looks to me like a ide to usb enclosure would have been the proper hardware to have purchased...complete with interconnecting usb cable. This method doesn't require any driver.
