Question pcmcia access in DOS

First post:
I'm having trouble getting my HP laptop to access pcmcia network adapter when booting into DOS (to run Norton Ghost).

I get the messages:-
No Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter Found
Driver Not Loaded
Fast Ethernet Adapter driver (....................) installation failed
Serious internal error !

I think this is because I need DOS drivers to access the pcmcia slots, but cannot find info anywhere...
