Exclamation Officejet 720 Installation Issues

Hi Guys/Ladies,

I need some information. I have been trying to install my printer driver fo 2 days without success. I uninstall the driver because it was not working right and then I tried to install it again but the system will not let me install. Everytime it gave me an error message that the computer needs to reboot. I went on line and download the newer version of the software for OJ 720 and I have the same problem.
Can Anyone out there save my Soul.

I will be much grateful

Yours Desperate Tech.

It's very difficult to help when you do not provide information:

1: Operating system
2: Driver used (filename)
3: Where you got the driver (url)
4: Steps used to install said driver.

Basically here's what your request reads:
I have used an unknown driver, installed in some unknown way, and I have an unknow error message that appears at some unknown time during installation in my unknown pc and unknown operating system.

Ok Jerry Sorry for the confusion

1: Operating system = Windows XP Pro

2: Driver used (filename) = oj700_ENU_xp1407 Downloaded from HP support Page

3: Where you got the driver (url) = http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/softwar...etype=software

4: Steps used to install said driver.

a. UNINSTALL prior Officejet software and POWER OFF your Officejet.
b. POWER OFF your Officejet and leave it powered off until the installation program prompts you to power it on.
c. Restart your computer.
d. Confirm that ECP (Extended Capabilities Port) Mode is enabled = mine is enabled in bios and it shows in device manager too.
e.Close all programs running including the antivirus
f . Double click the driver mentioned above and I got the error message" Your computer must be restarted before the software can be reinstalled.

I have rebooted the PC several times and still have the same problem and I have tried installing the drivers from safe mode and logged in as the system administrator.

I hope I am a bit clearer now!!!

Check to insure your system and hardware meet Microsoft Windows XP system requirements:

* PC with 300 megahertz (MHz) or higher processor recommended (233 MHz minimum required); Intel Pentium/Celeron family, AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended (check)
* 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported) (check)
* 300 MB of available hard disk space, plus 50 MB for full color scanning (check)
* Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher resolution video adapter and monitor (check)
* CD-ROM drive (shouldn't matter if using downloaded install file)
* available parallel port with Extended Capabilities (ECP) (ok)
* IEEE-1284 compliant parallel cable (this one is important so don't overlook)
* sound card and Internet access recommended (possible required in your situation)
* Sign in as administrator (you say you have, ok)
* Uninstall previous drivers (you say you have, ok)

Usually with HP printer installations, certain files are installed in the first steps, then a reboot is required before installation can continue. What is happening after the reboot??? Does it not continue the installation automatically as it should?

You may have registry entries from previous installation that's preventing the installation from preceeding normally. I'd suggest you contact HP and advise them of the exact nature of this problem and ask for help with solving the problem.

Or if your able to edit the registry with confidence, delete all HP OJ700 and/or OJ720 entries, then retry the installation.
