Are you sure this drive is Firewire / 1394 interfaced? Most 525 drives were built many years ago and connected via parallel port interface. They haven't been built in several years so support for newer os's is either scarce or non-existant.
First thing we need to clarify is your interface... is it truely Firewire / 1394 or parallel port?

Hi Jerry, well I'm not really sure,I'm new to this stuff, but I know that I had to install a 3 port type of card into my system and I plugged the USB cable into that... The writer came with 3 cd's....3 Port PCI Card,Que DVD Burner+RW and also Toast TiTanium...my comp recognized the writer immediately and as I stated before it worked perfectly 3 times and now I can't get it recognized at all...I have no idea what a "parallel port" is...I am truely a newbie to this comp. stuff...but any help and time you have to offer to give me is HIGHLY appreciated..Thankx a million...Terry

Ok, forget the parallel port thing.. it doesn't sound like you have that kind of hardware. A parallel port is the same as a LPT1 port (older type of port).
If your drive connects to a usb port, then the 3 port pci card sounds like just that... a 3 port usb controller card. Before a usb drive can be recognized by the system, it must first recognize that there is first a usb controller. Once accomplished, the system will automatically detect and install the drive without user intervention. Take a look in Device Manager and see what is reported there for the USB card. eg: present/not present, flagged/not flagged, etc. You must get the system to see the usb card before it has a chance of seeing the drive.
