Default windows 98 cannot boot normally..

Hi.
I have an old computer having 40GB HDD, 128 SD ram and Intel 810 board. After creating partition I formatted the drive ok and installed a clean 98 version. Everything ok, but when it starts in normal mode as it wants to install a new driver it stops fully and shuts down but computer still runs although it has atx smps, again if I start scandisk starts and same problem exist, but in safe mode it runs smoothly.., what to do???

Prandit Sharma...

idea Re: windows 98 cannot boot normally..

Use msconfig from the Start, Run menu. remove all check marks in the Startup tab, then add them back one at a time until you find the one causing the machine to fail bootup in normal model.

It sounds like your installation went awry somewhere. I suggest re-installing the OS.

What does this sentence mean? "but computer still runs although it has atx smps"

You don't need re-insntall win 98.
If you don't have a mouse driver for dos, search in the web and put
into windows dir.
After install Win98, boot by dos system, or boot dos disk, and rewrite autoexec.bat and config.sys.
Restart the system.
Enjoy Win98x !!
