idea Re: Intel AC'97 Audio controller

you don't unzip 3 files into 1 file, you unzip all three files into a temporary folder and you will have 3 files which are used to install the driver.

If you downloaded all 3 files and saved them into the same temporary folder, you must then use WinZip to extract all 3 zip files to the same folder. When you finish that part, you will have the following files in the temporary folder.

SoundMAX.part1.exe (12,288 kb)
SoundMAX.part2.rar (12,288 kb)
SoundMAX.part3.rar (10,581 kb)

at this time, you no longer need the downloaded zip files so they may be safely deleted. however, don't delete them until you know you have the above listed files.

Now the next step is simple. Click Start, select RUN, then click Browse, and navigate to the folder where you extracted the files to, double-click the file SoundMAX.part1.exe, then click OK. The installation program will start, just follow the on-screen instructions til finished. The exe install/extraction program will automatically extract the additional 2 files without user intervention.

Any step you don't understand, tell us where your at and what happened and we'll try to assist you further. This is simple and should be completed in less than five minutes. If you don't provide details, helping you will be very difficult.

edit: I think I found your problem.... does the EXE file fail to launch? It will not run for me. Hold tight and I'll see what I can do.

Ok, could not find a non-corrupt version of the first file, eg: one that would produce an exe file that runs when launched. So try this one and let me know how it works.

Windows 98/2000/XP driver for Asus motherboards with integrated on-board

SoundMax AD1888 chipset.
File Date: 08/29/2003
Version: 5.12.3665

Unzip to a temporary folder, then launch SETUP.EXE to install drivers.

Alternate download link:
http://dlsvr03.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/sock478/P4P800S-X/AD1888.zip

A side note: Some users of this board are claiming that after reinstalling the Windows XP os, then the exe file would run properly (the one I could not get to launch when double clicked and I suspect you too).

It's now 2010, and I had the exact same problem with Asus P4P800-MX sound drivers. Downloaded all 3 files as per instructions, but 1st file was corrupt. Spent many hours trying to find other sources for drivers, but 1st file was always corrupt.

Then found this thread, and it fixed my problem as well. Thanks a million.
