It's difficult to say since you gave no clues. New problem that just started or problem has been forever?, ie: has never worked? Has it ever worked properly? If not, I'd say you need scanner repair. If it has been working and just suddenly quite, I'd guess it is a software problem. Have you tried re-installing the software/drivers for this device? What is the interface. ie: how does it connect to the computer? If USB, are the USB port(s) reported as working ok in Device Manager?
