Optical drives NEVER require a driver when used in any Windows os from 95 up. Windows XP provides native support that allows this drive to read a data or music disk and to burn a cd-r disk. No support for burning cd-rw disks however, compatible recording software will overcome that problem. DVD decoding software allows it to read/play dvd disks. So what is your problem?

Optical drives need to be recognized by Windows XP, to be able to use XP built in burning. Since this drive is not recognized as a burner by Windows it won't burn. I've got this problem myself with these drives. Sometimes using a dedicated burning program is not an option.

XP Pro isn't recognizing the drive:

Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)

Uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't solve the prob. Any suggestions??

CD RW issues are often helped by the "Delete upper and lower filters" fix: (in the registry)

Might be worth a shot...
