Question Audio Driver Failure

Please Help
Gateway MX6450
Win XP Media Center Edition SP3
original Audio Driver was
Conexant AMC #D00377-002-001
Driver Detective tried to upgrade it to a Realtek AC97
this failed I tried to revert back it wouldn't allow it
I was referred to this website by CNET to locate my original driver
I have tried to download it but when I Run the program it comes back as FAILURE
everything worked fine before I tried to update but now of course I have NO AUDIO

When giving info that a file doesn't work, you need to mention it's URL and it's name. How else would we know what/where to look? Did you try re-installing the audio driver?

The manufacturer has drivers posted for this laptop:

Check if the Windows Audio service is running. Also see if your interface may be intermittently losing power.
My experience has been that if the driver unloads or stops responding, that a reboot is the only way to bring it back. However, I am running XP on my DAW; I would hope that Win7 is more sophisticated than that.
