Default Pops and clicks from audio

When I listen to any sort of audio (iTunes, videos, etc.), I hear these annoying pops and clicks fairly frequently. They are not part of the audio. They are not there when there is no audio playing. It's not the speakers or headphones- it's definitely some sort of internal issue. My computer is a Dell Inspiron 1525 and the sound driver is a SigmaTel HD Audio Driver. I tried reinstalling it, but nothing changed. Maybe that wasn't the correct solution or maybe I did it wrong, I'm not sure. What is going on and how do I fix it?

A lot of that seems to mostly apply to latency issues with home recordings. I just completely uninstalled the SigmaTel driver and reinstalled it, and the problem persists (this is the driver that came with the computer). There is another driver, which is an Intel (R) High Definition Audio HDMI. Is this different somehow, and should I try to reinstall this as well? Or perhaps I should download a completely new driver?

I believe what you're referring to is known as the Microsoft UAA driver. It's required to install PRIOR to installing the actual audio driver. You would need to completely uninstall this AND the audio driver before attempting to re-install both but it's imperative that you install the UAA driver first.
