Installing Realtek AC 97 Audio drivers (Any version) makes my computer crash

Hi,
Any time I try to install audio drivers it gets to a certain point and then crashes. This happens with any version of the drivers but I am certain that these are the drivers I need.

Any suggestions?

This device is integrated on a retail motherboard or a OEM pc system?

The brand and model of motherboard or PC brand and model?

We don't know what your sound chipset is, what it came in, or anything else about it. You gotta fed us a bone if you expect help.

I actually had a member tonight who said he didn't know what brand and model his pc was... imagine that. I advise him to install Everest Home Edition and give us summary report. Same goes for you.

To find make and model of pc hardware, EVEREST Home Edition is a free system diagnostics, system information program that will id most hardware onboard a mb. as well as the actual motherboard.

Run the program and then:

Click on Computer
Click on Summary

And btw, AC97 is not a chipset number...it's merely a term describing sound standards set by Microsoft in 1997.

Intel(R) 82801EB USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 24DD Multimedia Audio Controller is not a sound chipset. There are only a few sound chipset makers in the world, to name a few of the most popular, Realtek, Cmedia, ADI Soundmax, and Sigmatel. Chances are about 95% or higher that your sound chipset is one of these I listed. Hardware ID software gets fooled by these system builders and does not adequately or accurately describe the sound chipset.

Since it did declare you have a Sony VGC-V2S, I suggest you visit the manufacturers website to see if you can find accurate information about your onboard hardware and driver availability.

I may have mis-Read your System info..but what is that [D:/]Drive....a external HDD...??...dis-connect all your peripheral's in order to upgrade your System...that seemed my only question...your Memory is not the problem...considering you are useing a LapTop...??...why is your RAM so low[512MBs]....and your HDD[C:/]so large....??....you may want to CLEAR My Documents-->>SAVE TO:an external HDD...and re-try the Driver Install...considering you have a Pentium Product....once your BIOS has been installed...and other software programs...you can NOT upgrade the BIOS...your BIOS must be LOADED prior to software programs....or you may need to start all over from a FRESH-re-install of the OS and DRIVERS...check your computer mfg. for BIOS Upgrade...and DRIVERS....what is the correct procedure(what is the order used)..??..you may be "jumping" into the middle when you can not....when I have problems....a complete Re-Install solves my problems.
