Question Suddenly my modem is no longer detected

I have a 56k modem that lists on my computer as "conexant 56K" modem, and worked fine for several years. It is manufactured by MAC systems Co LTD. and the manufacturer info on the card says "MA560CI rev1.3" my operating system is WinXP.

I recently got broadband internet service, but I still need the 56K modem to send and receive the occasional fax. I have sent faxes since starting the broadband internet, but suddenly today my computer does not detect the presence of my modem! I have uninstalled, reinstalled, tried updating drivers, opened up the darn computer and REMOVED the modem from the plug and play slot, restarted the computer, re-inserted the modem (still not detected as being present!!!) and even repeated this whole process in the other plug and play slots in the computer.

Is my modem beyond all hope? Or is there some really stupid obvious thing I have overlooked? Please help, my husband and kids will thank you because I've been a grouchy bear all day trying to get the darn thing to work.

K

Have you tried installing the driver for your modem?

The company who built your modem is no longer in business.

you might find a driver here:

Yes, I downloaded new drivers and also tried to reinstall with the drivers on the CD that came with the computer, but neither one worked. The computer just is not able to detect that there's anything plugged in at all. I think the whole thing has just gone bad, and I have to get a new modem. :-(

In order for your system to detect a modem, 2 things have to be present:

1: You must have a plug and play modem.
2: You must have Plug & Play enabled in pc bios setup.

If it's not a plug & play modem, you must install drivers for the modem. Once installed then the system should see the modem.

Hmmm. I am not an advanced user, just "average" *maybe* high average on a good day. How would I check my BIOS settings?

Thanks for your help!

By pressing the appropriate key during bootup. Which key? I don't know because I don't know what pc system brand and model you have.

Some use: DEL, F1, F2, F10

Please consult your computer documentation to learn which key is used to enter pc bios setup. Or post your computer model and we'll try to help.

Question Re: Suddenly my modem is no longer detected

I use a Dell Dimension 8250. I also need instructions on how to solve the plug and play configuration error problem. (My modem is also undetected on my computer and I have troubleshooted that to no avail.) I have done everything the person above did, so all you basically need to know is that I use a Dell Dimension 8250 and should take it from there as you did above.

Thankyou,
D Gontar
