Question DiamondMax Plus 8

I have taken a working 20 gig IDE out of a Gateway E-1400 tower and wanted to replace it with a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 8 40 gig,,It shows in set up as N40P and when I go to install Windows XP Professional,,,It says it cannot find hard drive,,I have switched jumpers from master to cable select and no difference,,Am I doing something wrong, missing something somewhere,,I heard I should use a ata cable instead of an IDE cable,,Any suggestions,

Yes, this drive requires an ATA/133 controller. You didn't mention what controller you have it connected to so I can only assume your present controller isn't ATA/133.

You should jumper it the same as the original drive. Also, the use of an 80-wire cable is suggested because of the high speed at which it must operate.
