Default What's the best newest linux distro out there for my netbook?

I'm just wondering cause i want to switch to linux and i want a distro that would be fully compatible with my hardware.I'm running an Eee pc netbook Intel Atom cpu n270 1.6 ghz processor with 1 gig of ram. Also i'm fairly new to linux.I have used older distro's of Mandrake which i think now is mandriva, and i've also used older redhat...Thx in advance...
